Palm Sunday 2012 Philipines
Thursday, April 5, 2012 - Labels: Holy Week, Immaculate Conception Parish, Palm Sunday - 0 Comments

Holy Week (Latin: Hebdomas Sancta or Hebdomas Maior, "Greater Week"; Greek:Ἁγία καὶ Μεγάλη Ἑβδομάς, Hagia kai Megale Hebdomas) in Christianity is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday), Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. It does not include Easter Sunday. In Eastern Orthodox tradition, Holy Week starts onLazarus Saturday, the day before Palm Sunday. (Easter Sunday, for context, is the first day of the new season of the Great Fifty Days, or Eastertide, there being fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday.)
Palm Sunday commemorates the Triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Here in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro city, the parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Parish celebrated it with a Holy Mass that had to be started some few kilometers away from the Church. After some ceremonial introductions, the priest celebrating the mass will then bless all the Palms with water before proceeding to the church. You may have noticed some artistry done to the palms. Those were not necessary. We Filipinos just wanted to showcase our craftsmanship and somehow made the celebration a little bit more artistic.
Some pictures during the ceremony.
